NUS - The perks of saving as you spend!

Everywhere you turn you are greeted with hundreds of places to eat, or making eye contact with a mannequin wearing a jumper you could really do with. It's still winter after all isn't it?
You spend ages in a shop contemplating whether you could buy this jumper, and still be able to afford a food shop.
Or you go for lunch with a friend, and spend 10-15 minutes scanning the menu to see what is cheapest and question whether it will still fill you up as much as that £12 juicy burger screaming at you would.
With all this temptation, is it any wonder that people like to splurge on a good shopping spree. Everyone needs new things once in a while, or on a more regular occasion for the shopaholics out there.
But as students, you appreciate that you might not necessarily have the funds to treat yourself often - and that's where NUS extra comes in. Bringing you exclusive student discounts on a variety of shops and restaurants every day of the year!

For those who don't necessarily know what the NUS is; it is a voluntary organisation that has campaigned for the last nine decades of its existence to bring positive changes in the education system. No, this isn't just about discounts, they also fight for students rights, equality, and work collectively with students' unions across universities.
And how does the NUS Extra card work?
You can either pay for a one year card for just £12, and re-order a new one when it reaches its expiration. OR, purchase a three year card for £30 to last the entire time at university if you don't want the hassle of re-ordering it each year!
What kind of discounts can you get?
The variety of discounts range from a supermarket shop at the Co Operative, to your uni essentials, travel entertainment, and of course fashion and beauty treats.
Their top discounts that I have benefited from include:
1. 25% off at National Express, or even 12% off railcards - travelling home for a weekend has never been so cost effective!
2. Keep up with the new-in fashion with 10% off ASOS, or 15% off Missguided.
3. Take a trip to the cinema with your friends with 25% off student tickets at Odeon Cinema.
4. A huge range of restaurant discounts, my favourite being 20% off at Ed's Easy Diner.
5. 50% off Spotify premium, a treat that will save you £5 every month!
Suddenly it's starting to look like you might actually be able to enjoy yourself at a cheap price, right?
Where can you get one?
As NUS work with a lot of students' unions across universities all over the country, you should be able to pick one up from your students union - where you will fill in your details, pay, and a member of staff will get your card sorted for you.
Otherwise you can head straight to the NUS website, fill in your details; upload a picture of yourself to go on the card, and press order.
It really could not be any easier, and it is definitely something that students should take advantage of while they can!
