The Funner things in Life are Free

It has come to that time of the semester where our funds might be starting to run a little dry. You might have reached that point where you're living on pasta bake to get you through the week, or questioning whether you even need dinner and decide to opt for a night out instead!

Either of these options are completely acceptable as a student, and trust me, we have all had to do it at one point or another in the year.

When I moved to London, I decided to make a bucket list of everything I want to do before I graduate... However, there was one minor setback - you need money to do this.

So I started wondering what opportunities I could take advantage of that not only do not cost a lot, but also create a memorable day out.

1. Museum trips

South Kensington is the go-to for a cheap and busy out, with the beautiful buildings and cars to admire, but most importantly the heart of museums. Being the home to the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum (the V&A), all free entry with the option to offer a donation to the museums. You can have a full day out without spending a single penny if you really wanted to. If the weather's nice, you could also take a post-museum wander to South Kensington gardens to visit the Peter Pan statue.

Here is a picture of me looking incredibly majestic besides a historical Diplodocus at the Natural History Museum:

I'm the blurry person jumping, if you hadn't guessed

2. London Cycle hire scheme (A.K.A Boris Bikes)

The cheap, cheerful and healthier way to travel around the city which will ensure that you do not miss the great views London has to offer. Available with 24/7 access, every single day of the year for a bargain price of £2 for 30 minutes at a time and a free 30 minutes per journey! If you aren't necessarily confident at biking in the streets, you can always enjoy a peaceful bike trip around Hyde Park.

3. Enjoy the beautiful vistas

Sometimes it is nice to just go out and get a big of fresh air, and you and your friends don't have to spend hardly anything in order to take a stroll around the many parks London has to offer. Some examples include: Regents Park (home of London Zoo, if you're pushing your budget out slightly), Hyde Park, Epping Forest, Richmond Park... the options are endless!

4. Iconic scenes

Although this wouldn't necessarily fill up your entire day, it would definitely be one to tick off the bucket list! If you're a Harry Potter fan, why not have your picture taken next to the Platform 93/4 wall at Kings Cross station. Or follow The Beatles footsteps and cross Abbey Road zebra crossing.

This definitely doesn't make you a fan-girl, if anything, more historically intrigued?

5. 'Time of the Year' Entertainment

Take advantage of free festivals that happen across London every year, from Notting Hill street party, to celebrating Chinese New Year in Chinatown.

These are just some of the options, but you can look online if you are looking to plan a full day out in London on a budget!
