The City is your Oyster.

One of the perks of living in the capital City, is knowing that the three years that you will undertake at university will still not feel like enough time to conquer everything it has to offer.

As a student, public transport is a huge expense to take into consideration. But London's incredibly easy set-up allows making your way from one side to the other stress free... Kind of.

If you live in an area where walking can be more convenient to get to where you need to go, then jump at the opportunity! It’s free, healthy, and for us students we probably need all the fresh air we can get. However, sometimes walking isn’t the most practical option, especially when those dark mornings and chilly Autumn/Winter days start to creep up on you.

When you move to London, you notice that you start to obsess about travel time. Evaluating your time and route will be the first thing you take into consideration when you plan a day out.

For example, if I ever have an appointment in central London, or even a night out in Camden; I will sit and work out at what time I need to leave in order to be there early; which is the quickest tube line to catch, and take peak times into consideration. Although the journey itself becomes less stressful after I've tackled these factors, it has certainly made my time keeping impeccable.

Before moving to London, every person I spoke to always questioned how I would be able to afford it, and one year and a half later I still question this myself. It required research.

Investing in an Oyster card was my number one priority before moving here, not just to make the move that much easier, but Transport For London (TFL) offer an 18+ student oyster card for those enrolled on a full-time course which gets you a 30% discount on your journeys around London.

It may not seem like a big saving, but every student should definitely consider taking advantage of this to help make your affordability a little easier.

Here is the link for if you want to invest in an Oyster Card for yourself:

TFL is the most popular transportation for managing your oyster card and train/bus status updates.
